Sophie Thompson

Sophie Thompson is a vocalist and actor based in New York City who performs roles in opera, operetta, and classic musical theatre. In 2022, Thompson made her debut with the New York Gilbert and Sullivan Players as Mabel in The Pirates of Penzance, after performing the role with the College Light Opera Company in 2021. Other credits include Aline in The Sorcerer, Phoebe in A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder, Trio in Trouble in Tahiti, Eliza in Dark Sisters, Jessie in Mahagonny Songspiel, Bubikopf in Der Kaiser von Atlantis, Oberto (Morgana cover) in Alcina, Elisetta in Il Matrimonio Segreto, and Pamina in Die Zauberflöte.
Thompson is a two-time Audience Favorite winner in the American Vocal Traditions Competition in Savannah, Georgia, and was a semifinalist in the 2020 Lotte Lenya Competition. She received First Prize in the Jessie Kneisel Lieder Competition, Second Prize in the Friends of Eastman Opera Competition, and won the concerto competitions at Eastman and Carnegie Mellon with Benjamin Britten’s Les Illuminations.
She holds an M.M. from the Eastman School of Music and a B.F.A. from Carnegie Mellon University. Thompson also studied German at the Goethe Institut in Bonn and has a strong interest in Viennese operetta.
