New Work Commissioned by Miller Theatre This Season

For 30 years, Miller Theatre has been a nexus of creativity & experimentation. As we celebrate this milestone anniversary, we honor the vibrant history of the arts at Columbia University--including premiere performances of landmark works by Aaron Copland, Martha Graham, and Charles Ives--and embrace our commitment to the bold, adventurous work that has mad Miller Theatre a vital contributor fo the creative community. For our 30th Anniversary Season, we shine a spotlight on six artists we have commissioned to create new works, which will premiere at Miller. 

  • Missy Mazzoli and Royce Varek, chamber opera Proving Up (2018), co-commissioned by Washington National Opera, Opera Omaha, and Miller Theatre at Columbia University New York premiere
  • George Lewis, new work for harpsichord (2018) for Mahan Esfahani world premiere
  • Nico Muhly, new work (2018) for the Tallis Scholars world premiere
  • Wang Lu, new work for Yarn/Wire (2019) for her Composer Portrait world premiere
  • Tyshawn SoreyAutoschediasms for Creative Chamber Orchestra (2019) for his Composer Portrait  world premiere
