Join us for a series of free art-making workshops presented by Columbia University’s Arts Initiative and Miller Theatre. Flex your creative muscles as you paint, craft, and papier-mâché to create magnificent mobile sculptures and large-scale puppets. Workshops are open to all and no experience is needed—just bring your ideas and imagination. Work alongside neighbors from Harlem, Morningside Heights, the Upper West Side, and beyond. Inspired by the theme Odysseus on the A Train, participants will delve into the Homeric archetypes – gods and monsters, heroes and nemeses – to find parallels in their own contemporary urban ethos. At the end of the week, your creations will make their debut in the third annual Morningside Lights procession, an illuminated parade around Morningside Park and through the Columbia campus. Find a detailed schedule and sign up to participate at www.morningside-lights.com.
Workshop sessions will be held at Miller Theatre from Saturday, September 20 through Friday, September 26. Workshops are from noon - 6 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday; from 2 p.m. - 8 p.m. on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday; and from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Tuesday and Thursday. Space is limited.
