ZEALNYC Hails “Carnival of the Animals”  as “Ingenious”

Miller Theatre’s 2016 production of Carnival of the Animals received a rave review from ZealNYC, calling it “irresistible” and exclaiming Lake Simon’s vision as “ingenious puppet theater.”

“In bringing back director/designer Lake Simon’s production of Saint-Saens’ well-loved Carnival of the Animals for a second year, Columbia University’s Miller Theatre seems poised to turn it into a holiday tradition. Sounds like a great idea to me,” write reviewer Joshua Rosenblum. Narrator Lelund Durond Thompson was recognized for his “enjoyable touch of ceremonial pomp and festivity.” And “the youngest attendees seemed to particularly enjoy the audience participation moments.” Finally, the musical performance was called “virtuosic, nuanced, and sublime.”
