“A master still searching for new ways to perform and compose music.” — The New York Times
Over several decades as a composer and conductor, Pierre Boulez has gone from enfant terrible — he once proclaimed, “All art of the past must be destroyed” — to respected elder statesman, leaving an indelible mark on contemporary music. This tribute features works from throughout his career, from early miniatures for piano to the breathtaking masterwork Dérive, culminating in a U.S. premiere.
Support for this Portrait is provided by the French-American Fund for Contemporary Music, a program of FACE with major support from the Cultural Services of the French Embassy, SACEM, CulturesFrance, and the Florence Gould Foundation.
