THIS EVENT HAS ALREADY OCCURED IN A PREVIOUS SEASON! This evening's symposium is the final event of Miller Theatre’s Focus on Africa, a celebration of African music. A distinguished roster of composers, performers, and scholars will discuss the history of African music as well as contemporary work and its worldwide influence. Joining composer Akin Euba, Andrew W. Mellon Professor of Music at University of Pittsburgh, will be an unprecedented panel of experts: composers Halim El-Dabh and Lukas Ligeti, whose music will be performed in other Focus on Africa events, pianist William Chapman Nyaho, a performer in the celebration, and conductor and composer Bongani Ndodana, whose work is featured in a Composer Portrait. |
