This event has ended.

Celebrate a new year with a night of jazz. Meet, mingle, and enjoy free food and drinks with fellow Columbians at this special, students-only reception in the Miller Theatre lobby.

Starting at 8pm, the opening performance of our jazz series features the Dr. Lonnie Smith Trio. Smith, the elder statesman of the Hammond B3 organ with a career spanning over five decades, is nothing short of a living legend. Recently named an NEA Jazz Master, this septuagenarian is just getting warmed up–his freewheeling trio is a relentless tour de force of energy and groove.

CU student tickets for the performance are just $7. There’s no need to RSVP for the reception – just show your CUID.

Dr. Lonnie Smith, the elder statesman of the Hammond B3 organ with a career spanning over five decades, is nothing short of a living legend. He cut his teeth in the 1960s alongside the likes of George Benson and Lee Morgan, and has become known as one the most important innovators of his instrument. Recently named an NEA Jazz Master, this septuagenarian is just getting warmed up–his freewheeling trio is a relentless tour de force of energy and groove.
