Miller Theatre today announced its 2017-18 season, and The New York Times features the exciting season ahead.
The lineup for Miller's flagship series, Composer Portraits, is the focus of the preview: "Six living composers have been deemed ready for their close-ups in next season’s vital Composer Portraits series at the Miller Theatre at Columbia University. Marcos Balter, Chen Yi, Raphaël Cendo, Ann Cleare, Christopher Cerrone and Frederic Rzewski will each attend concerts devoted to their music next season at the Miller Theatre. The series — each concert is an evening-long exploration of the work of a single living artist — has developed into one of the most important habitats in New York’s new-music ecosystem."
Michael Cooper of the Times continues his preview of the new season ahead with a spotlight on Opening Night: "The Miller’s season will open on Sept. 28 with the pianist Simone Dinnerstein and the self-conducted chamber orchestra A Far Cry playing works by Bach and Philip Glass, the start of a Bach series."
Another season highlight included is Soundscape America, two performances by the JACK Quartet of American string quartet repertoire.
