THIS EVENT HAS ALREADY OCCURED IN A PREVIOUS SEASON!
Miller Theatre will host the premiere public screening of a new DVD featuring the music of Helmut Lachenmann. The disc—Mode Records 252—features performances by the same artists that appeared in Miller Theatre’s April 2010 Composer Portrait of Lachenmann: Ensemble Signal, cellist Lauren Radnofsky, conductor Brad Lubman, as well as the composer himself. Recorded at the Experimental Media and Performance Arts Center (EMPAC) in Troy, New York, the DVD utilizes 5.1 surround sound and hi-definition video to capture both the incredible sounds that are a hallmark of Lachenmann’s work and the unique physical techniques necessary to perform it.
The screening of the DVD at Miller Theatre will be preceded by a conversation with three people close to its creation: Lauren Radnofsky and Brad Lubman of Signal, and Johannes Goebel of EMPAC. Copies of the DVD will be available for purchase in the lobby following the screening.
