In the spring of 2010, photographer Thomas Roma visited the homes and studios of all seven of the composers featured this season, creating these intimate black and white portraits. The Director of Photography at Columbia University School of the Arts, Roma has published numerous books and been honored with solo exhibitions at the Museum of Modern Art and International Center of Photography. He built his first medium format, 6x9 camera in the 1970’s and has photographed using his own handmade cameras ever since. A longtime Brooklyn resident, he has been dubbed “the borough’s visual poet laureate” (ArtNews). His photographs for Miller Theatre will be on view in the lobby beginning in August of 2010.
