Lunchtime Concerts
String Quartet No. 2 Miller's popular midday series returns! Discover great chamber works in an intimate, casual setting. This season the concerts spotlight four of the founding fathers of modern American music, with works for voice, strings, and piano. Ives' second string quartet treats the four players as people; in the composer's words, they "converse, discuss, argue, fight, shake hands, shut up -- then walk up the mountain side to view the firmament!" The piece received its New York premiere on the Miller stage in 1946, when the space was known as the McMillin Academic Theater, as part of the Ditson Festival. Lunchtime Concerts are supported in part by the National Endowment for the Arts and the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences. REMAINING LUNCHTIME CONCERTS: (FREE - No tickets are required.)
